Working class unity and emancipation are inseparable from the struggle for democracy, broadly understood. If that was so in the 19th and 20th centuries, it is many times more so today. The rapid expansion and differentiation of the working class – nationally and on a world scale (especially in the Global South) – in recent decades, not to mention the existential challenges facing humanity in this era makes this absolutely imperative.
Such a struggle is economic, but not only economic.
